Identifying the important items in a situation that require increased attention and monitoring.
It is not really possible for an Instructor to teach the pupil how to completely eliminates errors from being made. However, by understanding some of these underlying patterns and behaviours an Instructor can better equip the pupil to cope with different situations.
5.4 WHAT SHOULD INSTRUCTORS EXPECT IN A PUPIL
5.4.1 Following are the qualities Instructors must look for :-
5.4.1.1 Integrity
In line training and simulator training, Instructors must be convinced that the pupil is the man that the Company can trust, that he places the interest of the Company and the welfare of the entire crew and the passengers above his self interest. He must be a responsible man and possess a strong sense of duty and well being.
5.4.1.2 Technical knowledge and flying skill
He must have the necessary technical background and flying skill to get him out of all envisaged abnormal situations.
5.4.1.3 Confidence
In the flight simulator he should exude that confidence in him manifested in a way his body language, the tone, pace and loudness of his voice, all will, in one way or the other reflecting himself to the Instructor who is watching his every move. In short, he should be a confident pilot.
5.4.1.4 Composure
He must be able to display a composed nature while tackling every conceivable situation in the air and on the ground. He should be always calm, cool and collected in handling all abnormal situations.
5.4.1.5 Compassion
The Instructor must assess his capability to handle different crew members, passengers, ATC etc. in a compassionate manner.
5.4.1.6 CRM
He should be able to use all resources available to him to solve any line oriented problems and emergencies. He must be a nice but firm guy. It is a well known fact that CRM can bring out the best in a pilot while working closely with his crew, ATC and ground staff.
