Landing gear extended speed means the maximum speed at which an aircraft can be safely flown with the landing gear extended. Landing gear operating speed means the maximum speed at which the landing gear can be safely extended or retracted. Large aeroplane means an aeroplane of more than 5 700 kg (12 500 pounds) maximum certificated take-off weight. The category ‘Large Aeroplane’ does not include the commuter aeroplane category (For commuter aeroplane category, see CS 23.1 and CS 23.3). Level is a generic term relating to the vertical position of an aircraft in flight and meaning variously height, altitude, or flight level Lighter-than-air aircraft means any aircraft supported chiefly by its buoyancy in the air Load factor means the ratio of a specified load to the total weight of the aircraft. The specified load is expressed in terms of any of the following aerodynamic forces, inertia forces, or ground or water reactions. Mach number means the ratio of true airspeed to the speed of sound Main rotor(s) means the rotor or rotors that supply the principal lift to a rotorcraft. Main parachute means a parachute, other than an emergency parachute, that is designed and intended to be used as a primary parachute Maintenance means the performance of tasks required to ensure the continuing airworthiness of an aircraft, including any one or combination of overhaul, inspection, replacement, defect rectification, and the embodiment of a modification or repair. Maintenance manual means an approved manual containing limitations within which the aircraft may be considered airworthy, and instructions and information necessary to ensure the aircraft is in an airworthy condition Major modification means a modification that could potentially affect the safety of an aircraft or its occupants where, as a result of its embodiment, one or more of the following incidents may occur: (1) structural collapse: |
