An ATN Island is an RDC comprising CAA-operated ATN RDs within a geographical region, and may include associated ATN service providers, or an RDC comprising Aeronautical Industry members which are users of communications services of a single Aeronautical Industry Service Provider, or more than one such provider providing services in combination with each other. Aeronautical Telecommunication Network Internet Presentation Address In the ATN, presentation addresses must, as a minimum, include an NSAP Address and a TSAP Selector and may include a PSAP Selector and SSAP Selector based on the addressing structure adopted within the ES and whether the application requires the OSI session or presentation protocol. Aeronautical Telecommunication Network Internet Router The communication element that manages the relaying and routing of data while in transit from an originating ATN host computer to a destination ATN host computer. In ISO terms, an ATN router comprises an OSI intermediate system and an end system supporting a systems management agent. Aeronautical Telecommunication Network Panel On 9 February 1993 the Air Navigation Commission (ANC) agreed to establish the ATNP States and International Organisations. The first meeting of the ATNP was held June 1994 and it is expected that the SARPs for the CNS/ATM-1 package will be ready for adoption at the second Panel meeting at the end of 1996. It is available along most national and international civil air routes. Aeronautical Telecommunication Network The ATN represents the internetworking infrastructure for the global aviation telecommunications network. The ATN uses a set of data communications protocols based on the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model, and will link the various air-ground and ground-ground data systems together. The design allows communications services for different user groups and will eventually operate globally encompassing all aeronautical data communication service users associated with the international aviation environment. |
